TICP preps aggressive microSD card packaging capacity expansion, says paper

Taiwan IC Packaging (TICP) plans further capacity for microSD card backend production by the end of 2007 in order to feed strong demand from Transcend Information, the company is cited by a Chinese-language Economic Daily News (EDN) report as saying.
TICP said it has already expanded its microSD card production capacity from 2.5 million units a month to four million units per month, and the amount is set to hit five million by year-end, noted the paper. Although price competition is severe, TICP is not discouraged as it believes microSD cards will gain more penetration in the handset sector. The company was cited by the paper as saying backend quotes for microSD cards currently averages between US$0.70-0.80 per unit.
